When choosing and purchasing LED displays, especially outdoor fixed displays, pay special attention to one parameter: IP rating. What is IP rating, and what IP rating display should you choose? Please see below.
I. Meaning of IP Rating:
In LED displays, the IP rating defines the LED display's ability to resist external solid foreign objects (such as fingers, roadside gravel, dust, etc.) and liquid foreign objects (such as rainwater). The higher the rating, the stronger the protection.
IP stands for International Protection Marking (IEC 60529), also known as Ingress Protection Rating or IP Code. This is the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) definition of the level of protection that mechanical and electronic equipment can provide against the entry of solid foreign objects and the penetration of liquids.

II. Composition of IP Rating:
IP Rating = Letters IP + First digit (Solid foreign object entry protection capability) + Second digit (Liquid penetration protection capability) + Additional letters (optional) + Supplementary letters (optional). IP Rating
In the entire LED display industry, the IP rating is indicated by the letters "IP" and the first two digits representing protection. The following letters are optional or supplementary and are generally not shown.
III. IP Rating Classification and Numerical Meaning:
The first digit represents solid foreign object ingress protection. The value range is a single digit 0-6 or the letter X.
X: No data available to demonstrate the protection rating.
0: Cannot prevent contact and ingress of foreign objects.
1: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 50mm or larger.
2: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 12.5mm or larger.
3: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 2.5mm or larger.
4: Protects against solid foreign objects with a diameter of 1.0mm or larger.
5: Dustproof, but not completely prevents dust ingress; the amount of dust ingress does not affect the normal operation of the display.
6: Completely dustproof.
The second digit represents liquid penetration protection. The value range is a single digit 0-8 or the letter X.
X: No data available to demonstrate the protection rating.
0: Unable to prevent water ingress
1: Protects against water droplets
2: Protects against water droplets when the equipment is tilted at 15 degrees
3: Protects against splashed water
4: Protects against sprayed water
5: Protects against jetting water
6: Protects against strong jetting water
7: Protects against short-term immersion
8: Protects against long-term immersion
