What is the difference between monochrome and dual-color LED displays?

The main difference in LED display colors lies in the distinction between monochrome and dual-color. Simply put, a monochrome display can only display one color, while a dual-color display can display more colors. Monochrome displays commonly found in the market usually refer to single-red displays, meaning they can only display red. Dual-color displays are called dual-primary-color displays because they contain both red and green LED chips.

For example, a 3.75mm (dot diameter) indoor display can only display red. A dual-color display, however, can display red, green, and yellow. This is because monochrome LEDs only contain red chips, thus only displaying red. Dual-color LEDs contain both red and green chips, allowing the display to show more colors through different color combinations.

Specifically, when a red LED is lit, the display shows red; when a green LED is lit, the display shows green; when both red and green LEDs are lit simultaneously, the display shows yellow. Looking at the circuit structure on the back of the display, a dual-primary-color display has an additional 595 driver chip specifically for driving the green LEDs, compared to a monochrome display.

This design allows dual-color displays to more flexibly showcase a variety of colors, meeting the needs of more application scenarios. Whether indoors or outdoors, dual-color displays are widely used in billboards, screens, traffic signs, and other applications due to their rich color and brightness advantages, bringing more color to people's lives.

Furthermore, when working, dual-color displays can produce various different color effects by adjusting the brightness of the red and green colors. This ability to change colors makes dual-color displays visually richer and more diverse, providing viewers with a more vivid and intuitive visual experience.
