LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens are constructed by placing liquid crystals between two parallel glass panes. By applying electricity, the rod-shaped crystal molecules are controlled to change direction, refracting light to create an image. LCD screens come in many types, each with its own characteristics, and are widely used in various fields.

I. Monochrome LCD Screens
Monochrome LCD screens mainly include TN, STN, and FSTN types.

TN LCD: Generally used for segment or character displays, it is the lowest-cost LCD type. TN LCDs have efficient production lines with ITO coating lines and fully automated pinning lines, resulting in high output and efficiency. It is often used for simple display needs, such as calculators and electronic watches.

STN LCD: Offers a wider viewing angle than TN LCDs and can be used for dot-matrix displays in addition to segment and character displays. When paired with transflective or reflective polarizers, STN LCDs can display directly without backlighting, reducing power consumption. Furthermore, STN LCDs can incorporate touch functionality, making them a suitable alternative to physical button panels. It is widely used in instrumentation, industrial control, and other fields.

FSTN LCD: An improved version of STN LCD, it features higher contrast and a wider viewing angle. FSTN LCDs offer clearer display effects and are suitable for applications requiring high display quality, such as medical equipment and automotive displays.

II. VA (Vertical Alignment) Screen
VA screens are monochrome displays with high contrast and a background color that can be changed according to the backlight color. Among all monochrome display types, VA's high contrast provides the clearest display effect. VA screens can also incorporate touch functionality, making them suitable for various applications requiring touch operation.

III. Liquid Crystal Display Module (LCM)
Liquid crystal display modules integrate liquid crystal displays with components such as driving circuits. They mainly include COG, COB, TAB, and COF types.

COG (Chip-On-Glass): By directly bonding the integrated chip IC to the glass surface, it achieves thinner thickness, lighter weight, and more affordable costs. COG displays are widely used in portable devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras.

COB (Chip on Board): Integrated circuit chips (ICs) are bonded directly to the PCB, offering robust durability and suitability for applications requiring wide temperature ranges and high shock resistance.

TAB (Tape Automated Bonding) & COF (Chip on Film): TAB uses tape-on packaging technology for integrated circuit ICs, suitable for applications requiring high space utilization and easy installation. COF directly bonds the chip to a flexible film, offering thinner profiles and greater flexibility.

IV. Graphic Displays and Character Displays

Graphic Displays: Utilize STN or FSTN technology, offering high contrast, wide viewing angles, and diverse display modes. Graphical displays are suitable for applications requiring complex graphics and images, such as instrumentation, industrial control, and power and environmental protection.

Character Displays: Can display numbers, letters, and other ASCII characters, offering diverse specifications and flexible interface options. Character displays are widely used in industrial equipment, communication equipment, and embedded systems.

V. Low-Temperature Display Modules
Low-temperature display modules are designed for extremely cold regions and military industries, including low-temperature LCD modules, low-temperature OLED modules, and high-reliability display modules. These modules can operate normally at extremely low temperatures, ensuring equipment stability and reliability.

VI. Serial Port Display Modules
Serial port display modules include serial LCD modules, serial OLED modules, and serial TFT modules, with various interface methods such as SPI, I2C, UART, USB, RS232, and RS485. These modules integrate powerful MCUs with intelligent display capabilities, suitable for various applications requiring serial communication.

VII. OLED and TFT Displays

OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode): Features high brightness and contrast, fast response speed, high color saturation, and low power consumption. OLEDs have wide viewing angles and a wide operating temperature range, suitable for various industries and applications.

TFT (Thin Film Transistor): Features high speed, high brightness, and high contrast. TFT LCD screens offer high display quality, large viewable area, and wide application range, including mobile terminal displays, desktop terminal displays, and large-screen projection displays.

VIII. Touchscreen Display Modules
Touchscreen display modules combine display and touch functions, improving device interactivity and user experience. Touchscreen display modules include OGS, G/G, and G/F types, each with its own characteristics and suitable for different applications.

OGS (One Glass Solution): Integrates the ITO glass sensor and protective glass into a single piece of glass, resulting in a simple, thin, and cost-competitive structure. OGS supports multi-touch, is optically transparent, and is suitable for various applications requiring touch functionality.

G/G (Glass Glass Solution): Consists of two layers of glass, one functioning as the touch sensor and the other as the protective glass. G/G offers optimal touch performance and is suitable for applications with high touch performance requirements.

G/F (Glass Film Solution): The glass layer serves as the protective layer, and the thin film layer is the touch sensor. G/F offers good drop resistance and heat resistance, making it suitable for handheld devices and similar applications.

In summary, LCD displays come in a wide variety of types, each with its own characteristics, and are widely used in various fields. When selecting an LCD display, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as specific application requirements, cost budget, and technical requirements.
