Why is temperature control crucial for outdoor LED displays?

The brightness decay and reduction of red, green, and blue LEDs differ under varying temperature conditions. At 25 degrees Celsius, the white balance is normal, but at 60 degrees Celsius, the brightness of all three colors decreases, and the decay values are inconsistent, resulting in overall screen brightness reduction and color distortion.

Simultaneously, exceeding the chip's operating temperature will rapidly reduce the LED display's luminous efficiency, causing significant light decay and damage. The LED tube encapsulation material will transform into a rubbery state, and its coefficient of thermal expansion will increase sharply, leading to open circuits and LED failure. Therefore, effective heat dissipation is essential for LED displays, keeping the screen temperature below 60°C.

Outdoor LED Display Heat Dissipation Methods

For LED displays under 20 square meters:

Select appropriately sized exhaust fans based on installation space.

If space permits, LED displays under 20 square meters can utilize two exhaust fans with a diameter of approximately 300mm for cooling, depending on the size of the installation space.

LED Display Screens Exceeding 20 Square Meters:

Select Cooling Method Based on Installation and Needs

1. Wall-Mounted Installation: Choose Exhaust Fans or Air Conditioning Based on Area Size.

If the LED display screen is installed against a wall, choose exhaust fans based on the area size. The exhaust fans should be arranged sequentially on the upper side of the screen. Ensure the exhaust fans have internal mesh to prevent airflow and potential injury. Additionally, install aluminum alloy louvers on the exhaust fan vents on the outer aluminum composite panel for waterproofing.

If installing air conditioning, ensure sufficient space for the air conditioning unit without affecting the overall appearance of the wall. Generally, 1.5P, 2P, and 3P air conditioners are used. For northern cities, a 1P air conditioner is used for 20 square meters; for southern cities, a 1P air conditioner is used for 15 square meters. If the outdoor LED display screen is large, the air conditioner needs to be custom-made.

2. Column-Mounted Installation: Exhaust Fans are Best for Cooling.

For column-mounted LED displays, exhaust fans are best for cooling. Install the exhaust fans on the top of the aluminum composite panel on the back of the screen, using louvers for waterproofing. For LED displays with a dual-column configuration, several louvers can be installed in the middle of the columns as air intakes, while the exhaust fans above serve as exhaust vents, creating complete air convection for better heat dissipation.

3. Install both exhaust fans and air conditioning, adjusting the cooling method according to the ambient temperature.

LED displays can use a combination of exhaust fans and air conditioning for cooling. When the temperature reaches above 40°C, the air conditioner is turned on and the exhaust fans are turned off; when the temperature is below 40°C, the exhaust fans are turned on and the air conditioner is turned off.

If air conditioning is mandatory, both purchase and operating costs will increase, but the cooling effect will be better. However, the space required for the air conditioner's outdoor unit must be considered to ensure overall aesthetics.
