I. Types of Seamless Video Walls
Seamless video walls mainly fall into two categories:
Traditional large-screen display wall hard splicing technology: This primarily uses multiple cabinets spliced together, such as CRT rear-projection display walls, LCD rear-projection display walls, DLP rear-projection video walls, and plasma display walls. Currently, the smallest seam gap in this splicing technology can be less than 0.5 mm. Although the gap is so small that it's called "seamless," there are actually gaps.
Projector seamless splicing technology using edge blending: This uses multiple projectors in a 1×N or M×N pattern to project onto a large projection screen. True seamless splicing can be achieved through a combination of projectors + edge blending units + splicers.
II. Equipment Components of Seamless Video Walls
Taking the currently mainstream and widely applicable soft-edge blending video wall system as an example, building a complete soft-edge blending video wall system typically requires the following equipment:
Screen: The screen provides the most direct visual impact to the audience, making its selection crucial. It's essential to ensure the entire screen is seamless to guarantee perfect image display. Stewart, an American company, is a strong advocate for ultra-large seamless screens and soft-edge blending splicing. Domestic brands like Aolong and Baoshi also offer good metal screens.
Projectors: The projector's image quality directly affects the large-screen display effect. Use 3-DMD projectors whenever possible, as they ensure excellent color reproduction. High-end 3-LCD projectors can also be used, but adjusting color consistency will take more time.
Soft-edge blending processor: This processor primarily determines the content and speed of the large-screen display. Its quality significantly impacts signal processing speed, image clarity, and the quality of soft-edge blending.
Signal processing equipment: This includes signal source type conversion, signal switching, signal amplification, and transmission. These functions are crucial for large-screen display, ensuring accurate and stable presentation of various signals on the large screen.
Centralized control equipment: Large-screen video wall display systems involve a wide variety of equipment, including numerous projectors, matrix switches, and signal sources. Centralized control equipment facilitates faster signal selection and switching, enabling convenient and quick control of equipment operation and significantly improving work efficiency and accuracy.
Peripheral equipment includes the signal source desktop access system, cables, connectors, cabinets, power supplies, etc. While these peripheral devices may seem auxiliary, they are indispensable for the stable operation of the entire system. For example, cable quality affects signal transmission stability, and the power supply must ensure a stable power supply to all devices.
