Many malfunctions of outdoor full-color LED displays are caused by improper installation. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly follow the steps when installing a full-color LED display, especially during the first installation, to reduce errors. Below are the wiring method steps for installing an outdoor full-color LED display.
Check the power supply voltage: Locate the DC positive and negative connections on the switching power supply, connect the 220V power cord to the switching power supply (after confirming the correct connection, connect to the AC or NL terminals), and then plug it in. At this point, the power indicator light should turn on. Then, use a multimeter in DC mode to measure the voltage between V+ and V-, ensuring the voltage is between 4.8V and 5.1V. There is a knob nearby that can be adjusted with a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the voltage. To reduce screen heating and extend its lifespan, in situations where high brightness is not required, the voltage can be adjusted to between 4.5V and 4.8V. After confirming that the voltage is correct, disconnect the power and continue assembling the other parts.
First, turn off the power. Connect the red wire to V+ and the black wire to V-, connecting them to the control card and LED unit board respectively. The black wire connects to the GND of the control card and the power supply. The red wire connects to the +5V of the control card and the VCC of the unit board. Each unit board requires one power cord. After completion, please check that the connections are correct.
Connect the control card and unit boards: Use the prepared ribbon cables to connect them. Pay attention to the direction; do not connect them incorrectly. Please note that the unit board has two 16-pin interfaces, one is input and the other is output. The one near the 74HC245/244 is the input; connect the control card to the input. The output connects to the input of the next unit board.
Connect the RS232 data cable: Connect one end of the prepared data cable to the DB9 serial port of the computer, and the other end to the control card. Connect pin 5 (brown) of the DB9 to the GND of the control card, and pin 3 (brown and white) of the DB9 to the RS232-RX of the control card. If your PC does not have a serial port, you can buy a USB to RS232 serial port conversion cable from a computer store.
Double-check the connections to ensure they are correct. The black wire is connected to -V and GND. The red wire is connected to +V and VCC +5V. Connect to a 220V power supply and open the downloaded software. Under normal circumstances, the power indicator light will be on, the control card light will be on, and the screen will display information. If it is not working properly, please check the connections or refer to the troubleshooting guide. Set the screen parameters and send the subtitles.
