LED chip grades are primarily categorized based on brightness, color stability, and lifespan, with consumer and industrial grades being common classifications.

Different grades of LED chips directly impact user experience and cost. Brightness is the most obvious difference; low-end chips may only offer 100 lumens, while high-end industrial-grade products can reach over 300 lumens. For example, LEDs used in ordinary light bulbs typically provide around 120 lumens, while commercial projection equipment generally uses models with over 200 lumens.

Color consistency is a key differentiator. Low-priced chips may exhibit batch-to-batch color temperature deviations (e.g., cool white light turning warm yellow), while high-grade products will specify a color tolerance SDCM≤3 to ensure uniform lighting. For example, film and television fill lights must use these types of chips to prevent color casts.

Lifespan testing determines the grade. Consumer-grade chips are labeled with a lifespan of approximately 20,000 hours, but the actual lifespan may be reduced due to heat dissipation; industrial-grade products undergo accelerated aging testing, with a stated lifespan of 50,000 hours and a warranty. Streetlights, advertising screens, and other long-term applications require the latter.

Certification marks assist in determining the grade. Products with CE, RoHS, and UL certifications printed on their packaging are mostly mid-to-high-end models, while those with only CCC certification are basic models. The newly added blue light hazard certification (IEC/TR 62778) has also become a selling point for high-end lighting fixtures.

When purchasing, you can ask the seller to provide a light decay curve: products with a light decay of ≤5% after 3,000 hours are considered high-quality. For home decoration, consumer-grade products with 80-120 lumens/watt are sufficient; for high-frequency use scenarios such as garages and warehouses, industrial-grade products with 150 lumens/watt or higher are recommended. When repairing, ensure that products are replaced within the same batch to avoid color differences caused by mixing new and old products.
