Scene 1: Fighting the Sun on Dubai's Footbridge Billboards


The Issue

Dubai is a city renowned for its opulence and sunshine. However, the sun is your deadliest adversary when it comes to outdoor advertising. At noon, standard digital screens become completely unnoticeable, faded out, and have minimal contrast. In the spotlight, advertising money really disappears.

Even worse, advertisements must be positioned where cars and pedestrians can easily view them due to the tremendous traffic on Dubai's main thoroughfares. However, traditional huge displays are just too heavy and complicated to install up there, while footbridges have limited room and are difficult to access.

The Fix

Together with Al Arabia Out Of Home, Daktronics installed giant LED display panels on ten footbridges throughout Dubai in late 2024. Every screen has a pixel pitch of 10 mm, which means that there are 10 millimetres between each LED dot. This pitch is perfect for a bridge seen from a distance since it provides a clean image without squandering money on needless pixel density.

The distance (measured in millimetres) between the centres of two neighbouring LED pixels is known as pixel pitch. Higher resolution is associated with smaller pitch, while greater viewing distances are associated with larger pitch.

Brightness, however, is the true game-changer. Similar outdoor large LED display screens normally operate at 5,000 to 11,000 nits, compared to just 500–800 nits on a regular smartphone, though the precise nit value was not disclosed. This implies that the advertisement material remains clear and readable even in the intense midday sun of Dubai.

The unit of measurement for screen brightness is nit (cd/m2). In bright settings, more nits translate into improved vision. One candela per square meter is equivalent to one nit.

The project also demonstrated modularity, another important benefit of huge LED display screens. Cranes were used to lift the pre-assembled screens into position over the bridges. Only two nights were needed for each installation, significantly lowering the hazards to public safety on congested roads.

The Result

Dubai's principal thoroughfares are now covered by ten enormous LED display panels erected on bridges. Now that every second of exposure matters, advertisers don't have to worry about sunshine consuming their material.


Scene 2: Keeping 70,000 Fans Up to Date at Madrid's Stadium


The Issue

Atlético Madrid plays at Madrid's Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium, which can accommodate around 70,000 spectators. However, because the arena is round, fans on one side are unable to see what is going on on the other. Not everyone can be served by a single conventional screen. The problem is how to maintain the interest of tens of thousands of people when the activity is simultaneously everywhere and nowhere.

The Fix

A large 1,742 square meter LED ring display was built by LG Electronics along the stadium's upper deck in September 2025. No matter where you are seated, you can instantly view live scores and replays because it covers nearly the whole upper deck.

This screen is 68% lighter than conventional LED panels thanks to LG's Mesh LED technology, which arranges the LED modules like a mesh grid. It could be securely installed on the curving, high-level structure because to its lightweight construction. It offers outstanding energy efficiency, low heat production, high brightness, sharp contrast, and clear daytime visibility.

In addition to the main ring, the stadium added more than 3,000 square meters of LED signage at press rooms, VIP areas, concourses, and entrances. Large LED display screens now cover the whole space; visual interaction is there from the minute you enter until the last whistle.

Mesh LED is a lightweight LED display technology that is perfect for curved or high-altitude installations because its modules are structured like a mesh to reduce weight and improve heat dissipation.

The Result

Every viewer may now follow every significant moment via a nearby screen, regardless of where they are seated. About 80% of Spanish professional football stadiums have LED display systems installed by LG, demonstrating how big LED panels can transform a "invisible" game into a completely visible, shared experience.


Scene 3: The Department Store in Zhengzhou: A Structure That Communicates with the City


The Issue

For more than a century, Zhengzhou's Erqi commercial area has served as the city's commercial centre, with over 400,000 people walking through it every day and over a million on holidays. However, conventional outdoor advertising screens were plagued with dull images, excessive energy consumption, challenging maintenance, and quick brightness deterioration. From basic "advertising boards," the district needed to transform into a public art piece that would blend in with the city's history.

The Fix

On December 25, 2025, a 2,588-square-meter big LED display screen, measuring 21 meters in height and more than 100 meters in width, covered the whole exterior of Zhengzhou Hualian Department Store. The screen wrapped around the east, south, and west façades, creating an almost 270-degree immersive visual interface.

This enormous screen has a refresh rate of 15,000 Hz and a maximum brightness of 10,000 nits. This ensures that the image remains crisp, smooth, and colourful from any angle, day or night. More significantly, it facilitates glasses-free 3D material. The building itself becomes a "city media" that narrates stories when images flow between the three façades.

Refresh rate, expressed in Hertz (Hz), is the number of times the screen updates its image every second. Flicker and motion blur are eliminated at higher rates, which is crucial for fast-moving video footage.

The Result

The project took just eighteen days from the beginning of construction to the first lighting. Known as "the largest in central China," this screen serves many purposes than merely advertising. It is now an essential component of Zhengzhou's urban identity, interacting with the neighbouring Erqi Memorial Tower and resonating with the century-old business district.
